DOJ CIO Reveals Upcoming Tech Opportunities

The U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Vance Hitch addressed upcoming technology opportunities for small businesses that trade with the federal government.

While most of the opportunities appeared to be highly technical and infrastructure related, there is confidence that small business sized recomplete items will be available for 1st QT FY11 for the information technology sector.

Specifically, DOJ’s current Litigation Case Management System (LCMS) contract with Computer Science Corporation (CSC) expires at the end of 2010. In June 2006, CSC won the LCMS contract that was to provide DOJ leadership in developing business-driven common solutions across agencies.

The LCMS project has been under duress lately. The implementation is well over budget and behind schedule.

The plan was for LCMS to solve the Department’s information sharing challenges. Currently the Department’s litigating divisions maintain its own case management system, which is not able to share information with other systems in the Department.

Asked if any of the LCMS opportunities would be available for 8a set-aside companies, Mr. Hitch was non-committal. “At this point, it’s much too early to promise that.” He said. “But we are pretty confident that there will be opportunities for small businesses.”
